Well, not the week I expected to kick off the second half of the season, but also not my worst (went 1-2 to start 2013).

As I stated before, the Salem State Vikings have been my go-to team each week. The Vikings edged out a close win over Southern Maine, 5-3, in nonconference action for my only correct pick.

Speaking of nonconference, the Framingham State Rams got things moving in the right direction after nabbing a victory over Franklin Pierce. This is only the second win for the Rams this season; however, it’s their second victory over an NE-10 club.

Speaking of conference play, the MASCAC and its member clubs open up the second half with tons of conference games. We get to see what teams are going to separate from the pack and gain post-season positioning.

Let’s take a look at the picks.

Thursday, Jan. 10

Fitchburg State Falcons (4-7-1) at Framingham State Rams (2-9-0)
Two opposite trends for both clubs heading into this one. The Rams opened up the second half of their season with a win, while the Falcons have lost two straight (three in total). Look for Fitchburg to right the ship though, as they grab the victory to get back on track. Framingham will battle all night; however, the Falcons will squeak by. Fitchburg 5-3

Westfield State Owls (7-5-0) at Plymouth State Panthers (9-4-0)
After losing five in a row, the Owls got back to their winning ways with a 5-3 victory over Southern New Hampshire. Plymouth, on the other hand, coupled hard-fought losses to some of the nation’s top programs with a 4-2 win over Babson. The Panthers have been dominant at home all season, and nothing changes here. Plymouth Sate 6-2

Massachusetts-Dartmouth Corsairs (5-4-2) at Worcester State Lancers (4-8-0)
Worcester has been giving up a lot of goals this season, especially in MASCAC games. The Lancers have allowed 25 goals-against, the most for any MASCAC team. On the road, the Corsairs have been solid and will rebound after two tough losses in the Northfield Bank Tournament. This is the game the Corsairs need. Mass.-Dartmouth 4-1

Picks to date: 15-8-2 (32 points)
