The Edmonton Oilers announced Monday they have signed free agent goaltender Shane Starrett to a two-year, entry-level contract.

Starrett appeared in 37 games with Air Force this season, going 26-6-4, with a 1.99 GAA, a .925 save percentage and five shutouts.

He was named the MVP at the Atlantic Hockey Final Four and was voted by his teammates as MVP for a second straight year.

Starrett was also a semifinalist this season for the Mike Richter Award.

In his two seasons at Air Force, Starrett posted a 42-15-9 record, a 1.96 GAA, a .925 save percentage and nine shutouts in 70 career games.

What, now the pros are raiding the military academies. I thought those guys (Army, Air Force) had military obligations?

Starrett was at a crossroads. If he came back next year, he would have had to honor the enlistment or pay back the tuition he would have paid to attend AFA. Kind of like how things were in general at one point with draftees- the push was on to leave after junior year for CBA reasons. Now, of course, that is all turned around with students looking to get free agency by staying in school.
