The Big Ten announced Monday that Ohio State senior defenseman Josh Healey has been suspended as a result of an incident that occurred in the game against Wisconsin on March 17 at the Big Ten tournament.

The action was taken by the conference after a review of an incident that occurred near the 17:32 mark of the third period and resulted in the player receiving a major penalty for contact to the head and a game misconduct.

Healey, who received an automatic one-game suspension for his third game misconduct of the season, has been suspended for one additional game under the conference’s supplemental discipline process.

He is ineligible to play in the NCAA West regional this coming weekend.

    Neal Pionk next?

    • heavymetalfightingsioux

Better be suspended for at least one game.

      • FrozenWild

Isn’t going to happen, the release of ref’s statement basically stated due to the exaggeration of Johnson’s reaction do to the hit (which they said should have been called a penalty, but couldn’t due to the review), there wasn’t the need for more penalty afterward.

    • PSUPirate

For what? Running into a goaltender? That isn’t close to what the goon Healy has done all season. I’m sure UND fans want a good player from the top seed in their regional suspended.

Running into the goalie? You may want to actually watch the video before commenting. Blatant attempt to injure.

Looked to me like Pionk just plain
          Frattined Cam Johnson

        • UofMGoldenCh0kers

Yes — attempt to injure. At UND, we don’t stand for attempts, we want results. He is definitely not UND captain material/

      • MN_Wild

That’s not running into the goalie. There are clips of it on youtube. Clear intent to injure. They already new they had a real good chance at being in Fargo. Clearly trying to take out UND’s goalie for that game and the next weekend.

    • Lem Motlow

“Pretty in” Pink should be suspended, he intentionally lowered his shoulder and mowed over the goalie. Just because you don’t make contact to the head doesn’t make it a good hockey play. His intent was clear, the NCHC needs to step up and do the right thing: 1 game suspension.

      • FrozenWild

It’s not going to happen…just saying.

    • St

The officials reviewed it extensively and decided not to issue a misconduct, or game misconduct penalty. There was no contact to the head. Was it a charging penalty? You bet. I’ll even grant it rose to the level necessary to be considered a major penalty, since there was no attempt to stop or avoid the goaltender in his protected area. But I can also tell you that if the teams were reversed there would be cries about how it was a “hard-nosed hockey play, and didn’t deserve a 5 minute major”, “he was just trying to fire his team up”, “he was frustrated at all the ticky-tack calls early on”, or perhaps how the goaltender “flopped, and sold the penalty”. Emotions run high in playoff hockey, and I guarantee Pionk wasn’t thinking about next weekend as he was rushing up the ice on a shorthanded break during a championship hockey game. Silly.

      • MN_Wild

Not a fan of UND so that argument does not work with a non biased person watching the game.

        • St

I’m a St. Cloud fan, so there’s not much of a bias here either. As a neutral observed I thought the assessment of a 5 minute major was warranted. Had the infraction been missed (somehow), under-penalized (2-min charging call), involved contact to the head, or resulted in an injury to the goaltender, then supplementary discipline could and should be discussed.

    • UMDales

All of you would be singing his praises if he played for North Dakota and that goalie had a gopher jersey on.

      • MN_Wild

Not a UND fan or a UMD fan. These college students don’t get paid so lets not try and injure each other on purpose. Well being paid does not matter so lets not do what Pionk did and try and injure a goalie at any level.

      • FightingBeaks

We would not be singing praises if one of ours did that.

You guys do like to troll this site and call out UND anytime another team’s player does something stupid though. That stuff only comes from MN. We’ve come to expect that from MN fans. Perhaps due to the disparity in success of the two programs (especially recently) and the long history of being rivals. You don’t see Denver or CC fans crying UND are goons every time another team does something goonish.

Pionk definitely followed through on that hit rather than take a shot. Too bad. His move to get to the net was brilliant. I’m not convinced he deserves a game misconduct though. It was bad, but nobody was injured.

        • UMDales

I hate the gophers. I’m a UMD fan. Who’s fans are crying? Who’s fans are trolling? Is this article about Pionk?

          • FightingBeaks

You’re trolling. This article is about Ohio State and you’ve managed to insult North Dakota somehow. That pretty much proves my point about fans from MN.

        • UofMGoldenCh0kers

Yes, we UND fans clearly understand the fine line between hard hitting and dirty play. For example, when Matt Frattin crushed Kevin Wehrs into the boards year back. That was a good clean hit which unfortunately left Wehrs conscious. When the former Fighting Suesies started fights in that the handshake line, that was OK because some mean gophers may said some nasty things to them or even knocked one of them down. However, when Aaron Marvin crushed Chey Genoway (after this hit, last named changed Cantremembermyway) that was a dirty, cheap hit that has no business in hockey. Marvin should have spent time in prison for that filthy cheap play.

Bob MacKenzie continues to call him a hard hitter for college. Bob is totally misguided about Healy. Kid is a goon.

      • jdhockeyboyz

Not sure what MacKenzie is talking about. The NHL frowns on hits to the head too. I’ve seen 2 of Healey’s hits that have resulted in suspensions and they involved headhunting.

He sure does deserve all the negative talk about him. I have watched him do this for 4 years and he never learned from it.

    • Let’sPlayHockey

What’s sad is he is in position on most goon style hits to make a ‘hockey move’ and help his team. Instead he takes an early shower.

      • Ken Baum

Yea many times the hit isnt even necessary or as you stated he is in position to make a hockey play and just flat out does something stupid. I missed the hit on friday night i was watching the puck but right before that he probably should have been kicked out for an elbow to the head
