St. Cloud State goaltender Charlie Lindgren has signed with the Montreal Canadiens, giving up his final season of collegiate eligibility.
Lindgren, one of five finalists for the Mike Richter Award as Division I men’s hockey’s top goaltender, was a free agent and had multiple offers from NHL teams.
A first-team all-NCHC selection, he was 30-9-1 with a 2.13 GAA and .925 save percentage this season for the Huskies. His win total was a school record.
“My three years at St. Cloud State have been the best years of my life, an absolute blast,” Lindgren told the St. Cloud Times. “It’s definitely a decision I thought about a lot and it’s definitely a tough decision to leave the guys and the coaching staff and fans.
“I’ve just got the right opportunity in front of me and I’m going to take it.”
