Boston College junior forward Chris Kreider and junior defenseman Brian Dumoulin both signed NHL contracts Tuesday, forgoing their senior seasons with the Eagles.

Kreider inked an entry-level deal with the New York Rangers, while the Carolina Hurricanes signed Dumoulin.

The Rangers drafted Kreider in the first round (19th overall) in 2009 and Carolina tabbed Dumoulin in the second round (51st overall) that same year.

“You can’t emphasize enough how important it is how much winning [Kreider] has done already in his career,” Rangers assistant GM Jeff Gorton said in a statement. “When you win consistently at a young age like Chris has, it becomes your mindset. In addition, we love his desire to consistently try and improve his all-around game.”

“Brian is a big, puck-moving defenseman who achieved at a high level throughout his time at Boston College,” added Carolina director of hockey operations Ron Francis in a news release. “His success there speaks for itself and it is important for his continued development that he now begins his professional career.”

Kreider had 23 goals and 45 points this past season, while Dumoulin recorded seven goals and 28 points and was second in the NCAA with a plus-27 rating.

Sorry to see them go, but BC fans knew this day was coming. Thanks to them both for all they did, inclduing two NCAA titles, and best of luck in the NHL.

Getting BOTH Kreider and Dumoulin back this year was not expected; but welcomed! I honestly thought Kreider was ready last year, almost the same for Dumoulin. Glad both came back; happy for the BC program, and a tremendous amount of respect for Jerry York; who brought BC back from the Cedorchuk/Milbury fiasco. Hard to imagine it’s been 18 years now for Jerry!

        BC HE Fan,
Can you recap for us what happened with the Cedorchuk/Millbury fiasco? I remember it vaguely from when I lived in Boston back then. Thanks!

Nothing unexpected here…BC will be fine…they Reload not Rebuild @ BC…just gives the rest of the League some hope during the regular Season.

Yeah these two were great.  I am a Sioux fan, however, I greatly appreciate the recruiting efforts made by BC.  We like to think of ourselves as recruiting the best but obviously BC is a notch a head right now.  They definitely will reload and be back.  4 Championships in 12 years (I believe) is downright sick!

This is one of the few exceptions for me agreeing that they should leave!  They both put up amazing numbers, and won a national title… what is there left to do at the NCAA level??   nada.  Good for them, they should make an impact at the next level, best of luck!
