Five Yale athletes, including three members of the hockey team, were arrested Sunday morning in New Haven, according to published reports.
Sophomore hockey players Alec Richards and Matt Nelson and senior Brad Mills along with two members of the Yale football team, quarterback Matt Polhemus and running back Mike McLeod, were arrested after a storefront window was broken. All were charged with breach of peace. All but Polhemus were also charged with criminal mischief, according to the Associated Press.
“The investigation is in the hands of Yale University and the New Haven Police Department as they gather the facts associated with this incident. At this time we are not able to make further comments,” said Yale athletics director Tom Beckett in a prepared statement. No disciplinary action is to be taken against the athletes until the legal process is complete, according to the school.
Yale begins its hockey season under new head coach Keith Allain in an Oct. 21 exhibition, with NCAA play starting Oct. 27 at home against Holy Cross.
